ÜDI in English

The Literature Club ÜDI unites literature enthusiasts inside and outside of Tallinn University. We deal with everything that is even a little bit related to literature: discuss fiction and philosophy, theatre performances and films, develop creative writing skills, create opportunities to share creative works, invite both writers and literary scholars to speak. We regularly organize events where you can always get involved and listen to inspiring people. In October, around the time of ÜDI's anniversary, we're organizing the literary festival Röögatus! (Roar! in English). Currently most of our events are in Estonian, but sometimes also in English. Keep an eye on our social media to find events in English or check the events page here!

ÜDI members are divided into two groups: board members and regular members. The first group includes ÜDI’s managers and the most active organizers. Regular members have the right to participate in closed events, receive information first about events that require registration, propose ideas for events and carry them out, and run for the board. Once a month ÜDI sends emails to members with information about upcoming events and other important updates. In addition, members have the option to join a Messenger group.

Who or what is ÜDI? In Estonian 'üdi' means 'marrow'. ÜDI as bone marrow - literature as the backbone of society. Marrow as being thorough. ÜDI as Vastness. Drama. Beauty (play of words with ÜDI in Estonian: Üüratus. Draama. Ilu). Üdi as one of the classics of Estonian literature. And ÜDI as everything else that it reminds the reader.

ÜDI has been active club since 24th October of 2024, when we organized our first event. It was established as part of LIFE project lead by Robin Lek.

ÜDI has friendly ties with the youth of the Estonian Writers’ Union in Tallinn and with Ellips, the University of Tartu’s literature club.
